This series was initially written as a self-challenge back in late January and early February of 2008 to write ten one-shot stories with one thousand words each (by my word processor's counter) in ten days. It is set in the British Empire in the 1880s, and it was inspired by the style of James Joyce's The Dubliners and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories.
